Your Ultimate Wedding Dress Timeline: A Guide for Newly Engaged Brides
Congratulations on your engagement! As you begin planning your wedding, one of the most exciting (and important) steps is finding your wedding dress. Because most gowns are made-to-order, timing is everything. Following a clear timeline helps ensure a smooth, stress-free experience from your first appointment to your walk down the aisle to get married!
Are you a bride getting married soon? Finding the perfect wedding dress can feel overwhelming, but with the right timeline, you can enjoy the process stress-free and look stunning on your big day.

12–14 Months Before the Wedding: Set Your Budget & Start Researching
Begin by setting a realistic budget for your gown. Wedding dresses vary widely in price, and knowing your comfort zone will help guide your search. From there, research bridal styles, designers, and boutiques that align with your vision.
Most wedding gowns are made-to-order and typically require 6–8 months for production, so starting early is essential.
At Revelle Bridal, our gowns range from $2,500–$6,000, with most falling between $3,500–$4,500.
10–12 Months Before the Wedding: Book Appointments & Say Yes to the Dress
This is the ideal time to begin bridal appointments. Bring a small group of trusted guests whose opinions you value. While it’s tempting to invite many people, a more intimate group often makes the decision process smoother.
Once you find the one, place your order to secure your gown within the standard production timeline.
Important note:
If your wedding is before December 2025, your gown may require a rush order, which can include an additional fee. For a limited time, 2025 brides who order before the end of January will receive 50% off the rush fee.

4–5 Months Before the Wedding: Undergarments, Shoes & Beauty Planning
With your gown ordered, now is the time to shop for shoes and undergarments that complement your dress, such as shapewear or a strapless bra. These items are essential for accurate fittings later on.
You’ll also want to begin planning your hair and makeup looks to ensure everything comes together seamlessly.

3–4 Months Before the Wedding: Gown Arrival & Accessories
Your gown typically arrives during this window. At your first fitting, you’ll try on your dress and discuss any alterations needed.
This is also the perfect time to order accessories such as veils, jewelry, or belts, ensuring they arrive in time for fittings and final styling.
2–3 Months Before the Wedding: Begin Alterations
Alterations usually begin 2–3 months before your wedding. Depending on the gown and adjustments required, you may need multiple fittings. Starting early allows enough time for changes and ensures the best possible fit.
1 Month Before the Wedding: Final Fitting & Prep
Your final fitting will take place about a month before your wedding. Any last adjustments will be made at this time. Be sure to start breaking in your bridal shoes at home so you’re comfortable on the big day.

Final Thoughts
Starting early and following a clear bridal timeline helps ensure your dress arrives on time, fits beautifully, and allows you to truly enjoy the experience. If your wedding is coming up sooner, don’t forget to factor in rush timelines!
And if you're working with a shorter timeframe, don’t worry — we have options. Rush orders (with applicable rush fees) may be available, and we also offer a curated selection of off-the-rack gowns that can be taken home much sooner.
Happy wedding dress shopping — we can’t wait to be part of your journey 🤍
